Though I am very proud of the stool I made at the beginning of the semester, I enjoyed our second project more. Our first project we were given exact instructions and we had to follow them exactly or else it wouldn't be structurally sound or it would wobble. This project we asked teachers what the would like us to build for them and we made it happen. The teacher I chose was Breeann, she is a student teacher and former student. She unfortunately doesn't have an office, but she uses a small, quiet corner of the school consistently. She asked us if we could paint her a piece to spice up the white walls, she wanted these specific leaves, a neutral color scheme ( with the exception of pastel pink), and for it to be on wood so she can take it home in a few years. The rest was up to my partner, Sierra, and I. I liked that we could be as creative as we wanted and do something we love. In creating this piece there was a lot of planning involved. We needed to find out what kid of wood we needed, what color paint, how big the piece was going to be, everything. We had a planning document we used to store this information.
After planning, Will bought all of our supplies and we got to work. We cut the wood, drew on it, painted it, and stained it. We also made a custom frame by cutting and measuring the wood to make sure it will fit. We also used a rotary and rotary table to make an indent in the frame. Lastly we nailed the piece in the wall and used putty to polish it up before repainting the frame.
Future Goals
My goals for this class are: Mastery of at least a few of the power tools Effectively create blueprints that make sense to not only myself, but others To create
